Organic compounds containing conjugated double bonds or polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons can absorb ultraviolet (UV) light when dissolved in water. By measuring the absorbance of UV light at 254 nm, we can assess the level of organic pollution in the water. The Specific UV Absorbance at 254 nm (SAC254) is a well-established parameter for quantifying the total concentration of organic pollutants. Infrared light is used as a reference beam to compensate for turbidity interference.
