TMF Thermal Gas Flowmeter

Operating Principle

The Thermal Gas Flowmeter measures the mass flow rate of gas directly, without requiring pressure or temperature compensation. Its principle is based on the fact that the rate at which a fluid absorbs heat is directly related to its mass flow. Gas molecules in motion collide with the thermal resistor, absorbing and carrying away heat. The greater the flow, the more molecules contact the thermal resistor and the more heat is absorbed. The amount of heat absorbed depends on the number of molecules of a given gas, as well as its thermal and flow properties.
